Pearl XPS Ltd
I have had this news passed onto me from Southend. I will copy it in as sent to me.
There was a group of door to door salespeople employed by a firm called Pearl XPS Ltd calling at pre war houses in Southend District yesterday (11.7.07) They offer free structural surveys. Anyone daft enough to take up the offer, will then be told by the surveyor that the house is in imminent danger of collapse and can only be saved by being coated. The surveyors are totally unqualified and the coating is as much use as tippex! Scare tactics are a normal part of their sales patter
The firm is known to Trading Standards and is currently under investigation by the DTI Scambuster Squad. Any information re Pearl XPS should be passed to Consumer Direct who are collating sightings, etc.
Please advise members of NW to be on their guard against this type of cold calling, not to sign any documentation they may be offered and under no circumstances to allow salespeople into their homes. Once in, the salespeople will not leave until the householder has signed on the dotted line.
According to the Companies House record, Pearl XPS was known as Anduraguard in 2006; and Wallcote in 2005. They also trade as Mosaic, which was featured on the BBC Watchdog programme

View GalleryON June 16, 2007, we published an article headed 'OAP nearly paid more than twice value of work'.
The article stated that as part of a national purge on rogue traders, trading standards officers advised pensioner Gerald Amies not to have work carried out by Pearl XPS Ltd.
Mr Amies was visited as part of Operation Rogue Trader, a campaign aimed at raising awareness of traders who overcharge for sub-standard, unnecessary or unfinished work.
Regrettably, some readers may have felt the article was referring to Pearl XPS as such a trader. We are happy to clarify that the trading standards officers who visited Mr Amies were providing general advice and were not commenting specifically on the business practices of Pearl XPS.
As was stated, the trading standards officer said: 'I am not casting aspersions on this particular company'.
We also wish to make it clear that the 'experts' referred to in the article, who provided an estimate of how much the work on Mr Amies' house should have cost, was in fact an individual trading standards officer commenting on only one aspect of the overall restoration work.
Attempts to contact Pearl XPS were made outside office hours and we were therefore unable to obtain a comment or clarification before publication.
Pearl XPS has now assured us that it provides a specialist service, working to strict codes of conduct and has comprehensive policies to protect vulnerable customers.
The firm has also pointed out that it has previously and is currently assisting both trading standards and the police in their efforts to catch rogue traders and fully supports this campaign.

Pearl xps is the biggest rip off ever they send young kids around to houses which they get the info they need and then u will get a call back the next day to arrange a good time and date for urself to be there. The inspector is not qualified what so ever and is in fact a salesman if they come to your house tell them you are not interested and they have changed there name so its no longer pearl xps its something like apex
They are now in Streatham at present - trading under the name of Anduraguard - door to door cold calling... very young marketing reps who offer free surveys on houses built in the 1930's -with no obligation to purchase. They follow this up with a telephone call and appointment - once inside the salesman spent three hours emphasising the seriousness and extent of repairs required and stressed how the damp would soon penetrate many areas if left untreated. The estimate was extortionate and a discount for paying in cash or instalments was mentioned. Hints at making a decision quickly were also made!
I am one of the victims of PEARL XPS. I have paid in full and they left without completing the work. They also left the scaffolding standing almost a year now. I have contract with them, including the 25 years warranty. However, their action so far tells me that the 25 years warranty counts for nothing.
What are my options? Any suggestion would be much appreciated. Can we take them to small claims court?
