The police can issue £30 fixed penalty notices for this.
There has also been a rise in the theft of scrap metal in the county. A white Ford Transit, R4** HAK is known to officers as being the main suspect, who we believe is coming down from Huntingdon regularly to commit scrap metal thefts.
Some of you may remember the numerous thefts of road traffic signs that was happening around our district in the early summer. A local suspect was charged with the thefts of 40 + signs but I thought I would provide you with the numbers to call if you have any queries/ issues with local signs.
Specific road name signs - Maldon District Council -01621 854477 - Ask for Phil Chapel.
All other road signs - Essex County Council - 0845 603 7631.
Great Totham
03/10 - Known youth knocked on resident's door, Maldon Rd on Sunday (1st) asking a question about the buses. Same youth knocks on same door on the 3rd asking whether the resident knows someone called 'Darren'. Youth was seen looking into same address earlier on in the day. Same youth seen looking into peoples' windows along Maldon Rd. Well known for pedal bike theft. White male, 15 year old, 5 ft, slim build, wearing round glasses, brown short hair, often seen in the village on a bike.
02/10 - Shed burglary committed over night, Prince of Wales Rd, between the dates of 30/09 and 02/10. £300 stereo taken. Unknown suspect(s) broke through padlock to get in. The same suspect(s) may have been responsible for dumping a baseball bat, 2 empty boxes, a length of plastic tube and some fishing equipment under a bush at the same at the same time.
01/10 - Pedestrian hit by passing taxi, Colchester Rd junction with Beckingham Rd, 0015 hrs.
01/10 - 3 nuisance drivers riding in cars around corn field, Hall Rd, 1815 hrs. One red, one blue and one grey car. No other info known.
30/09 - Theft of golf club set, bag and trolley from front garden, Maldon Road, between 1400 hrs and 1500 hrs. No suspects seen.
22/09 - Beadle Place, 2 unknown males seen conducting door to door sales, 1530 hrs. Informant saw that their window had been opened, then saw said males knocking on one other property with an open window. They did not knock on any other doors, and therefore believed them to be suspicious. Approximately 18-20 year olds, one was 5" 8 tall with black hair. They even asked the informant how long they were going out for! See next report for possible cross reference.
22/09 - Beckingham Street, Tolleshunt Major. 1620 hrs, 1 male conducting door to door sales of dusters. When questioned about fake identification and illegality of sales, he replied, "I know, but everyone does it". 5" 5, slim build, approximately 18 years old, with Northern accent. Wore light coloured 'Gaberdine' jacket.
20/09 - Criminal damage committed to car in Prince of Wales Pub carpark, between 2100 hrs and 2130 hrs. Unknown suspect(s) scratched passenger front wing mirror of aggrieved's blue BMW.
13/09 - Criminal damage to tractor at Loft's Farm, Broad Street Green. Person(s) unknown have emptied bag of sugar into fuel tank of tractor, causing £300 damage.
13/09 - Aggravated burglary, Stapler's Walk. Person entered property during the night and stole keys belonging to home owner, whilst threatening them.
13/09 - Person(s) unknown, tried to enter property down Stapler's Close, overnight on the 13th/ 14th/09.
12/09 - Large plant pot stolen from front garden, Mount Pleasant Estate whilst the residents were away on holiday. Noone seen or heard. This coincides with unconfirmed reports that similar thefts are happening in the Foster Rd/ Catchpole Lane/ Harvey Rd area of Great Totham. Unknown suspects would need a vehicle to steal these large potted plants.
11/09 - Theft of laptop from commercial premises, Hall Road, 1415 hrs. Dell Insperon 1000, black model. None seen or heard.
07/09 - Road traffic Collision, failed to stop. Lorry collided with tree, Hall Road, causing damage to fencing.
21/08 - Known suspect was seen punching the Catchpole Lane bus stop, causing damage to the value of £125.

02/10 - Attempted dwelling burglary, 0230 hrs, Church Rd. As below report, damage caused to window. Resident heard the disturbance but did not see anyone when looking outside.
02/10 - Dwelling burglary, Maypole Rd, between 0630 hrs and 1630 hrs. Unknown suspect(s) attempted to gain entry to house by bending aluminum windows of property.
30/09 - At 1350 hrs, a male called at address in Poney Chase, requesting to read gas meter. Did not call at any other addresses and did not appear to be a 'professional'. The occupants did not have a gas meter, and reported the suspicious behaviour. No description except that the male wore a blue T-shirt and jeans, and carried a clip board.
28/08 - 04/09 - Criminal damage caused to rear window and wooden frame of property in Arbour Lane, damage to the value of £100.
22/09 - 6 unknown males refused to leave The Chequers when requested, 2030 hrs. Public order warning given to one male. The landlady later received repeated nuisance calls from an unknown person, blocking the telephone line.
12/09 - Wickham Bishops resident suffered a purse snatch at Tesco, Fullbridge. £200 stolen from handbag whilst shopping. No suspects seen.

29/09 - Resident had a brick thrown through their car windscreen, The Street. Great Braxted
30/09 - Theft of handbag from secure car, parked at Shut Heath Wood, Braxted Road. Unknown suspect(s) smashed window and stole bag between the times of 1000 hrs and 1015 hrs.
22/09 - 2 or 3 cars full of youths seen smashing a light at the cricket pavilion, 2305 hrs. Youths seen running away at scene, one detained by police. Awaiting further information from original informant.

- If the child is under 12 years of age (and above 3 years of age) and under 135 cm in height they must be sitting on a child or booster seat.
- Once they either reach 135cm or 12 years of age (whichever comes sooner) they are no longer required to have a child/booster seat.
