Is Anyone Actually Reading These NHW blogs?
I'm just wondering if anyone is reading these blogs. I know they haven't been going long, so local people may not be aware of them. Their aim is to keep residents in touch with local Neighbourhood Watch issues, local news, and what's happening with our local police force.
There is a visit counter, but that seems to count visits to the profile, not each site, so I don't know how many visits (if any) I'm getting. I'm not very good with technical things, so perhaps I haven't grasped the best way to monitor this.
However, I have enabled the comments feature to take comments from anyone. If you've read this post, could you please acknowledge with a brief comment. Are you a local resident, or are you just browsing? Just wondering, that's all. Thanks.

Hurrah, I'm not all alone in here. I was beginning to think I was talking to myself.
Are you two local to Gt Totham?

We are in Totham South. We had the picture sellers come round a couple of months ago. They didn't seem to speak any English and had their message written on a card. My wife was quite impressed with the pictures though!
Thanks for that GTS dwellers. It's a free country, and people ought to be able to come to the door and try to sell us things if we are happy for that to happen. Too often, though, people are gulled into buying junk, or feel intimidated on their own doorstep.
My feeling is that if we ask these people to identify themselves it makes the environment more hostile to those up to no good.
It doesn't seem fair to exclude the genuine because of the swindlers, but distinguishing the genuine can be quite hard.
There is a scheme where residents can become a "No doorstep selling area", but this requires 100% of the residents in that street wanting to comply, I believe. If people are interested I'll ask Ray Stannard the Crime Reduction Officer for more details.

Does this cover Hatfield Pev and Ulting? I found this blog by accident via a link from another site. As this is relatively new how easy/difficult would it be to get a letter drop done advertising this to relevant households? Can it be published in the respective Parish magazines?
Hi Anon of Ulting & Hatfield Peverel
This is run by Evelyn of Great Totham South Neighbourhood Watch, and so tends to focus primarily on Great Totham, and the 5 villages covered by PCSO Heather Owen. IE Great Totham, Little Totham, Wickham Bishops, and the Braxteds.
When I get the info for the whole of Maldon District, I put that up as well, but I think you must be in another district.
The Neighbourhood Watch boundaries follow the police dstrict and divisional boundaries. Great Totham is part of Maldon District.
Some issues will be relevant to you in HP & U, such as an outbreak of artifice burglaries, the purse dipping issues, and thefts of large amounts of scrap metal for example, so it may well be worth putting a pointer to this blog in your Parish magazines.
It is very early days with this at the moment, and I do sometimes wonder how useful people will find it, but I think it worth doing. It doesn't take me much time (PCSO does a lot of the reports and I just lift them and paste them.)
Perhaps you could set up something similar for your district. Tell me if you do and we can set up pointers between the blogs.
With Neighbourhood Policing rolled out across the county, this sort of interface between us, the public, and the police , will become increasingly useful.

I've found out from our PCSO which districts Ulting and HP come under:-
Ulting comes under the Maldon District, Hatfield Peveril under Witham(?) .
She suggests if you're interested re NHW matters, you contact Anne Larn at Maldon Police Station as she is the guru of NHW!

Hi, after a minor crime I had another look at the NHW leaflet we had pinned to the cork board in the kitchen.
I didn't realise we had a blog!
Very impressed, and will be tuning in more frequently.
