October's Report and More
In addition there has been some trouble on Halloween. Two houses in Welland’s Close, Wickham Bishops, and a house in Maldon Road were “egged” and a house had yogurt splashed on it as well. In addition a man had a firework thrown at him from a red Orion in Wellands at 6.30 approx. The firework exploded near him.
In these incidents no-one called 999 or otherwise to get a unit out so the police had no chance of catching the perpetrators. Heather has asked me to remind you to report crime to the police. If it’s a crime in progress, then call 999. Otherwise phone Heather on her mobile, or Maldon Police Station 01621 852255 or Chelmsford 01245 491212.
They don’t have crystal balls. We have to report crime if we want something done about it.
This brings me onto the subject of phone numbers. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what all the phone numbers are for. This isn’t just us; at a PCCG meeting in Chelmsford recently, it was apparent that a lot of us members of the public are confused about what the SPOC number is for.
The SPOC number is a mobile carried by the officer on duty. 07710 046156. It is not, it must be emphasised, not for reporting a crime in progress, ie something happening at that moment. It is not for calling the immediate response from our NPT officer. A crime in progress requires 999, because the officer might be sent into a dangerous situation, and that should be done via the Force Information Room so they know where the officer is.
The SPOC number is there so that you can talk to the officer on duty about concerns you might have, or if you have a question you think s/he might be able to help with.
Our (Great Totham Neighbourhood Policing Team) NPT is based at Tolleshunt D’Arcy. The phone number is 01621 868576. It has an answer machine, but the message might not be picked up for a day or so.
Maldon Police station’s number 01621 882255 is often put through to Chelmsford. This is for general enquiries, or to report a crime and incidents which have happened. This includes graffiti. The police are building up photos of graffiti to make prosecutions more successful, so please report it. The same goes for criminal damage.
And we have Heather’s number so we can phone her and discuss any issues with her.
