Bogus caller Warning
I have had a warning sent to me from Chelmsford Neighbourhood Watch
NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH NEWS AND CRIME UPDATE ALERT.
BOGUS CALLERS - ARTIFICE BURGLARIES - DISTRACTION BURGLARIES
The surrounding areas of Chelmsford have been hit by a spate of nasty incidents all related to the above underlined named crimes. Chelmsford has not suffered any of the above but we must all be vigilant and warn our vulnerable neighbours without scaring or frightening them.
Ten incidents were reported to Essex Police last Friday and Saturday. All the incidents involved men callers frightening elderly people into believing that there was a problem with their water supply: -

CAN I CHECK YOUR TAPS?
CAN I GET UNDER YOUR SINK?
THERE IS FLOODING NEXT DOOR,
I WANT TO CHECK A BURST PIPE,
I NEED TO TURN THE WATER OFF,
These are some of the reasons given by up to three men to con their way into premises.
Sadly SOME people did allow men into their houses and large amounts of money were stolen.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD AND REMIND PEOPLE TO SECURE & USE THEIR DOOR CHAIN BEFORE OPENING THEIR FRONT DOORS. DON'T OPEN YOUR DOOR TO STRANGERS.
This area of Essex is supplied with water by the Essex & Suffolk Water Company, they do not call unless requested and when they do they produce a bona-fide Identity card.
THEY DO NOT SAY "WE ARE FROM THE WATERBOARD" THIS NO LONGER EXISTS.
REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS DOORSTEP CALLERS IMMEDIATELY TO THE POLICE ON 999

Steve's Monthy Report
Dear Residents,
You are probably aware that PCSO Steve Butler has taken over Heather Owen's duties as our PCSO, andd that includes providing a monthly report. At present, Steve's duties take him further afield than Heather, so I have included his report for the whole area.
Two things caught my eye in Steve's report. Can I draw your attention to two incidents of silent 999 calls which were children playing on the line, and a couple of silly 999 calls. As an area we are not bad for malicious calls… if anything we tend to be too timorous in calling 999 when it is appropriate to do so.
Can I remind people that 999 is for immediate response, ie something which is happening at the time; things like a suspected burglary, criminal damage, suspicious persons. Don't be afraid to use 999 in these circumstances, but please remind kids not to abuse the system.
Can I also draw your attention to this report:-
04/09/07 – Nuisance youths group of children reported playing with BB guns when police arrived the guns were plastic no offences.
Sadly I think the days when we were free as kids to run around in a public place, playing Cowboys ’n Indians or Cops ‘n Robbers are long gone. Recent tragic events with children and gun crime, though not local, make people nervous. There have been incidents in cities where kids playing with toys have been stopped by armed police.

29/09/07 – 18:17 Request for Police informed that two balloons had collided mid air and landed in Plains Road. When checked all in order; had to make quick landing due to air speeds.
22/09/07 – 09:15 criminal damage on a car in Beadle Close. No suspects seen or heard took place approx 08:00 – 09:00.
20/09/07 – 21:42 In Hall Road a red Fiesta index unknown has been driving inappropriately.

16/09/07 – 21:16 suspicious vehicle was seen following a confrontation informant had with people shooting on land with an air weapon. No offences.
13/09/07 – 09:00 a gentleman’s bike was taken from a drive way in Maldon Road between the hours of 09:30- 13:30. No suspects seen or heard.
09/09/07 – 15:30 Silent 999 call child playing on line.
06/09/07 – 09:48 30 speed signs in Hall Road had been appeared to be stolen but after some investigating highways had moved the signs.
05/09/07 – 10:57 a Brown / Burgundy Vectra part index M216 vehicle was driving dangerously down Walden house Road.
03/09/07 – 14:52 Persons were approached by males in White Mercedes van selling Plasma Television from the back of van. Area search done no trace.
03/09/07 – 08:34 Aggrieved was phoned. The male calling said he was a police officer and that aggrieved’s wife had been in an accident. Aggrieved wife was with him at the time. Aggrieved gave his name and address out.

06/09/07 - 14:35 Suspicious van was seen to park up outside scrap yard in Maldon road stay in lay by for 10 to 15 minutes looking at comes and going of Mayfair Ind estate.
05/09/07 – 13:40 Fire in field put out by fire brigade.

03/09/07 – 17:54 A group of males who appeared to be intoxicated went on the croquet pitch and urinated on it while people were playing. They went to the post office to get more alcohol were refused and sped off in a car.

30/09/07 – 19:52 Obstruction in garden close vehicle moved when police attended.
23/09/07 – 19:16 Mini motos being ridden on Summer Hill play area. When area checked there was no trace.
22/09/07 – 01:12 Bridge Marsh Lane pick up truck being driven around farmland. When police arrived vehicle was locked up no-one to be seen.
18/09/07 - 11:34 suspicious vehicle on farmland on Burnham Road. When checked no one seen.
08/09/07 – 05:34 A male wearing a white hooded jacket was seen on the corner of garden close acting suspiciously. A vehicle alarm was going off in the vicinity.
03/09/07 – 20:18 Three Males riding mopeds on the green near the pub in Althorne, Person spoken to names taken.

20/09/07 – 13:26 obstruction in Church Road junction with Ferry Road.Yellow van blocking entrance. Units checked no trace.
03/09/07 – 13:01 2 males were seen smashing up a vehicle in a farmers field in Franklin Road when police arrived males had left the area.
03/09/07 - 16:59 vehicle arrived again at location in farmer’s field, Franklin Road as it did at 13:01 but left when police arrived.

21/09/07 – 20:05 two vehicle accident on Mundon Road. One person injured.
20/09/07 - 13:56 suspicious males in white transit van selling generators units attended area no trace.

11/09/07 – 12:52 A Suspicious male was seen looking into sheds in which tools are kept. The male is well known to police.

15/09/07 – 21:50 Public order incident male was being rude and abusive to staff in a ph in Mortimer. Male was arrested.
