Heather's 5 Villages Report for July & August 06

This is PCSO Heather Owen's report for the 5 villages she covers, passed on to the Parish Council, the local Neighbourhood Watch etc.

Maldon Police Station 01621 852255
Tolleshunt D’Arcy Police Station 01621 868576
Point of Contact Mobile 07710 046156 – This is picked up by the officer on duty.

Since the kids have broken up from school, there has NOT been the expected rise in anti-social behaviour calls to the police….yet. Our villages have had the usual small rise in ‘noise nuisance’ calls due to the hot weather, but all things considered, it has been a quiet summer so far.

Things to note – there have been a few sightings of Polish men selling paintings in the Maldon District. I have had reports of this in Wickham Bishops, Great Totham and Goldhanger. One elderly lady was burgled by a Polish man selling art work. Please be vigilant as they are knocking on doors in this district at the moment and can be very ‘pushy’ towards the more vulnerable.

Ray Stannard has also emphasised the need for people to be aware of the district’s burglary numbers for the last 6 months. 66 of the 117 burglaries were non-forced entries. I can think of 3 burglaries in our villages over the last 2 months, one was through an unlocked door.

As always, this is not a definitive list of what has been reported to the police over the past 2 months. Private/ sensitive incidents are not posted in this report.

Great Totham

06/07 – 1400 hrs. There was a Polish man reported to the police as knocking on doors asking for money as he was hungry. Polish people have been in the area for a few months now asking for money. They sell art work, and have been known to claim that they have lost a hand.

Wickham Bishops

The Great Totham kids are spending more time in Wickham Bishops, by the bench in Arbour Lane, and the new youth shelter. We have not had any recent problems at the youth shelter, but they are causing a nuisance at the Arbour Lane bench. I have asked ‘boy racers’ to move on at St.Bart’s church car park, although they are now going to the village hall car park instead! I am in the process of issuing warnings for their driving behaviour, (1 issued so far).

02/07 – 0146 hrs. Male called from the public phone box outside the One Stop Store, saying that there was a noisy party, and after calling Environmental health, there was ‘going to be a murder in Wickham Bishops tonight’!

02/07 – Early hours of the morning, whilst the informant was holding a wedding party, 3 vehicles were keyed, after an angry male made threats to them about the noise.

14/07 – Drunken female seen wandering into The Street, concern for her welfare. All in order on police arrival.

17/07 – Criminal damage to St.Bartholemew’s Church windows. Almonds were thrown at the stained glass windows. No-one seen or heard.

19/07 – Prevent Breach of the Peace, footballers from Hatfield Peverel have been told to ask permission before using Wickham Bishops land, as they have been trespassing on Beacon Hill Sports Association land.

22/07 – Grange Road, local resident repeatedly shooting on own land, allowing shot to fall on residents’ cars. Advised by police.

30/07 – Fire, Mount Shell Farm. Believed not suspicious circumstances.

04/08 – Dwelling burglary, Blacksmith’s Lane. Laptop stolen. People entered by lifting Yale lock with metal pole, through the letter box.

09/08 – 2150 hrs, road traffic collision, Maypole Road. Motorcyclist fell off of bike. Had no insurance or driving license.

19/08 – Theft of men’s bike from property in Maypole Road, between the times of 2130 hrs and 1300 hrs. Grey bike with red front forks.

Little Totham

There have been 2 reports of a suspicious male in the village. The first time was a white van approximately 2 weeks ago, he was waiting by the playing field for most of the day, and said that he was waiting to meet someone. The car was registered to someone in Hertfordshire.

01/07 – 2030 hrs. Informant had a young male kicking a ball against his fence. When asked to move he ‘kicked off’.

04/07 – Suspicious male, long dark hair, seen watching the young children by The Swan Public House, 1900 hrs. The man drove a black 4 x 4 with ‘Thunder’ written along the side.

05/08 – Pedal bike stolen from side of property. Bike that fitted description was found dumped on beach along Heybridge Road, but when informant had arrived, it had disappeared.

13/08 – Criminal Damage to slide at playground. Grafitti with offensive words written on slide, in permanent marker.

19/08 – Theft of £400 heating oil from tank in back garden, Plains Road. The measuring pipe was also ripped off.
